Social media: le due facce della medaglia - Social media: the two sides of the coin

IT - Negli ultimi anni la tecnologia digitale  ha avuto uno sviluppo esponenziale sia dal punto di vista scientifico che dal punto di vista sociale. Da diversi anni ormai, molti giovani sono entrati in contatto con tecnologie innovative e hanno imparato a convivere con una nuova realtà, che ha portato con sé non solo vantaggi e opportunità, ma anche rischi e problemi. 
Per i giovani l’uso di questi nuovi mezzi, come ad esempio i social, comporta delle ripercussioni soprattutto nel periodo dell’adolescenza: questa fase di sviluppo è fondamentale nella formazione dell’individuo. Durante questo periodo il cervello si modella, permettendo all’individuo di acquisire competenze cognitive, emotive, relazionali e affettive, che rimarranno stabili per il resto della vita. E’ proprio in questo periodo che i social possono creare molti problemi: essi, se utilizzati senza precauzioni, possono portare dipendenza e hanno un alto rischio di far isolare il giovane nel “suo mondo”. Inoltre i social, se usati per molto tempo, portano anche ad un alterazione del sonno sviluppando poi anche comportamenti impulsivi-aggressivi. Il web, oltre a ciò, molto spesso porta alla perdita del contatto con la realtà e modifica anche i concetti di tempo e di spazio: molte volte si pensa di aver navigato via internet per pochi minuti quando in realtà è passato moltissimo tempo. 
Purtroppo per alcuni giovani i social sono visti come un soluzione inconsapevole alle difficoltà della vita reale e sono spesso strumento per colmare delle mancanze. 
Fortunatamente vi è anche un'altra faccia della medaglia: essi offrono tante opportunità. I social incrementano moltissimo alcuni aspetti dell’apprendimento e della memoria dei giovani oltre a facilitare molti lavori. Anche i videogiochi, spesso etichettati come “giochi violenti e diseducativi", possono portare ad un miglioramento dell’attenzione visiva e della coordinazione. 
Per di più il web può essere un’immensa fonte di sapere per coloro che vogliono documentarsi su diverse tematiche per ampliare le loro conoscenze, stando però attenti alle fake news. Infine, aspetto meno gettonato, ma che ha preso molto spazio in questi ultimi anni, riguarda il fatto che  i social aprono le porte a moltissime opportunità lavorative offrendo così una più vasta gamma di possibilità di scelta.

In conclusione i social media ,nonostante abbiano un lato negativo capace di destabilizzare gran parte dei giovani ,se usati correttamente e sfruttati al meglio possono rappresentare un grande passo avanti per la nostra generazione. 

EN - In recent years, digital technology has had an exponential development both from a scientific and a social point of view. For several years now, many young people have come into contact with innovative technologies and have learned to live with a new reality, which has brought with it not only advantages and opportunities, but also risks and problems. 
For young people, the use of these new media, such as social media, has repercussions especially in the period of adolescence: this phase of development is fundamental in the formation of the individual. During this period the brain is modeled, allowing the individual to acquire cognitive, emotional, relational and affective skills, which will remain stable for the rest of life. It is precisely in this period that social media can create many problems: if used without precautions, they can lead to addiction and have a high risk of isolating the young person in "his/her world". Furthermore, social networks, if used for a long time, also lead to an alteration of sleep and then also develop impulsive-aggressive behaviors. The web, in addition to this, very often leads to the loss of contact with reality and also changes the concepts of time and space: many times you think you have surfed the internet for a few minutes when in reality a very long time has passed.
Unfortunately for some young people, social networks are seen as an unwitting solution to the difficulties of real life and are often a tool to fill gaps.
Fortunately, there is also another side of the coin: they offer so many opportunities. Social media greatly increases some aspects of the learning and memory of young people as well as facilitating many jobs. Video games, often labeled as "violent and harmful games", can also lead to an improvement in visual attention and coordination.
What's more, the web can be an immense source of knowledge for those who want to read up on various issues to broaden their knowledge, while paying attention to fake news. Finally, a less popular aspect, which has taken up a lot of space in recent years, concerns the fact that social networks open the doors to many job opportunities thus offering a wider range of choices.
In conclusion, social media, despite having a negative side capable of destabilizing a large part of young people, if used correctly and exploited to the fullest can represent a great step forward for our generation.
